Knoxville Girls Basketball Team Spends Saturday on Charity Works

Members of Knoxville High School’s girls basketball team were up early after their Friday night game, to help out with charities on two fronts.

They went first to Motor Inn in Knoxville to receive a donation on behalf of Coaches vs. Cancer; the auto dealership contributed $1,680 towards the annual benefit game coming up on January 19th, and the team was on hand to accept.

Then the players fanned out across town, stopping at homes which had signed up in advance to collect food and personal care items for donation; all these items are to be made available at the Panther Pantry, directly benefiting fellow students and their families.

Player Katie Keitges tells KNIA/KRLS News they expected going to donor’s homes would encourage more people to want to give.

“We figured we’d get a lot more if we go out to their house; and it’s fun, it’s a lot of team bonding for us,” Keitges says. “We went out to breakfast beforehand, and it’s a lot of fun so we’re excited.”

The players agreed to perform a community service project in exchange for taking part in the Iowa Hall of Pride scrimmage in Ottumwa last month.
