Holiday Wreaths for Service Members Placed at Knoxville’s Graceland Cemetery

Over two dozen volunteers turned out to help remember the area’s fallen veterans during the Christmas season…by placing holiday wreaths on their headstones.

As part of the Wreaths Across America project, veterans and community volunteers put over 200 green wreaths in the veterans area of Graceland Cemetery; Emory Riseley from the Knoxville American Legion post tells KNIA/KRLS News they didn’t have quite enough for all the headstones, but did receive nearly twice as many as the 137 provided last year.

“Yeah, we got I think…212 wreaths to put on these crosses,” Riseley says.

Wreaths with miniature American and service flags were also put at the base of the flag poles with the banners of all the branches of the service.

Ceremonies here and all across the country marked Wreaths Across America Day; over 1,400 cemeteries and memorials held their own wreath-laying events on Saturday.
