The Indianola Indians girls and boys basketball teams both took close halftime scores and put their respective games away in the third quarter in a doubleheader sweep of Pella Christian last night in a pair of games heard live on KNIAKRLS.com.
The girls traded baskets with the Eagles throughout the first half, with Pella Christian scoring points in the post and owning a 19-18 lead at halftime. In the third quarter however, the Indians put the lid on the basket playing strong defense and going on a 21-0 run at one point and ended the quarter leading 42-21. Indianola ended up winning the contest 52-31, led by Lauren Blake’s 12 points and Mara Bishop’s 11.
The boys game was much of the same, with Pella Christian getting off to a hot start before the Indians crawled back into the game. The Eagles led 26-20 with two minutes to go before halftime, when the Indians went on a 7-0 run to take a 27-26 lead at the break. The third quarter saw the Indians outscore the Eagles 17-9 behind a pair of three’s from Quinn Vesey, and salted the game away from there. Evan Gauger had 19 points, Vesey at 18, and Matt Deike had 9 off the bench.
The girls improve to 3-2, the boys improve to 4-1, and both teams will next play on Tuesday hosting Dallas Center-Grimes.
