Pella Christian’s Difficult Schedule Bodes Well for Postseason Play–If They Keep Winning

In the early goings of the winter sports season, the Pella Christian boys basketball team is emerging early as a contender in Class 2A basketball.

Their two losses have come to 3A’s Norwalk and Pella by a combined margin of eight points, and according to state power ranking system BCMoore, the Eagles are rated as the 2nd best team in Class 2A, having played the toughest schedule according to the metrics. And while state voting polls, including the AP and Gazette, have yet to recognize the Eagles’ ability, it seems a few signature wins may help the boys in maroon and gold help their standing for the rush to the Well in February.

And why do the rankings matter? Because the coaches in boys basketball will meet in late January to determine the district brackets–and in 2017, in the first year of the new seeding system, the Eagles were the beneficiaries of playing in the predominantly 3A and 4A Little Hawkeye Conference; earning home field advantage and eventually the No. 2 seed at the state tournament, finishing in 2nd place. And big wins against large school teams with their own visions of a long postseason will only bolster the resume of a Pella Christian team.

The Eagles hosts Indianola this Friday, a game that can be heard live on 92.1 KRLS.
