Knoxville Skate Park Shut Down for Winter, Ready in Spring

Knoxville’s new skate park is dormant now, covered with snow and officially idle for the winter; but once springtime comes, it will get a proper opening and be put to full use.

The skate park located within Young’s Park still needs some finishing touches, but is mostly ready for use whenever it warms up.

Brandon Nemmers from the Knoxville Park District tells KNIA/KRLS News final preparations will be made before the grand opening.

“We will open the restrooms back up; April 15th is the day we shoot for, so we’ll have the water turned on, the restrooms open,” says Nemmers. “It’ll still be a little muddy out there, because we’re going to have to do some seeding in the spring, but…the shelter will be available (as will) the rope climber and the skate park.”

Nemmers says the skating area got some unofficial use while the weather was still warm, but now it will probably go unused until the snow melts.

Since the parks are technically closed during the winter, the road to the skate park doesn’t get plowed so access could be difficult.
