Indianola Basketball Splits Doubleheader Against Norwalk

A quick start led the Indianola girls basketball team to their first win of the season 57-34 over Norwalk last night, while the boys squad went cold in the second half for their first loss 65-48 in a doubleheader heard live on the KNIA2 stream on KNIAKRLS.com.

The Indianola girls press forced turnover after turnover, and Mara Bishop made the Warriors pay scoring 13 first quarter points as the Indians built a 22-4 first quarter advantage. Norwalk made a run to cut the lead to 10 in the second quarter, but three pointers from Lauren Blake and Kendall Clatt ended the run and put the Indians up for good. Bishop led the scoring with 18 points.

The Indianola boys hung tough with a Norwalk squad that has state tournament aspirations in the first half, trailing only 32-31. The second half however had the lid over the basket for the Indians, as they were outscored 33-17 for their first defeat of 2018. Evan Gauger led the way with 15 points on the night.

The girls improve to 1-1 and will next host Des Moines North on Tuesday, while the boys will wait until next Friday to take on Pella on the road.
