A CPR and basic first aid course is being offered next weekend at Knoxville Hospital and Clinics, and more participants are being sought for the day-long class.
The course runs from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. and will cover proper use of CPR as well as how to use an automated external defibrillator.
Jen Myles is the education and employee health coordinator at Knoxville Hospital and Clinics; she tells KNIA/KRLS News this course is meant for civilians who want to learn or brush up on their skills for use in the event of an emergency.
“This is for your basic lay person who might have somebody at home that they might be concerned that they may have to do CPR on; or, just someone who feels like they need it,” Myles says. “It’s not for medical professionals; it’s just the basic lay person course.”
One important element of the course is showing people how to use the AED; these are usually kept in public locations, and come with instructions…but in a pressure situation, someone untrained in their use could have problems following them, so learning in advance is helpful.
The cost for registration is $25 per person; lunch will not be provided, so participants should bring their own. Myles says they only offer this course a couple of times a year, but more can be added if there’s demand.
